Unveiling the Memorial Stone

Unveiling the Memorial Stone

Local people marched with us out of Ballyphehane Community Centre across to Tory Top Library, where we formally unveiled the centenary memorial stone commissioned by the 1916-2016 Commemoration Committee.

The stone was officially unveiled by Árd Mhéara Cllr Tony Fitzgerald, and we also had recitations, music performances and re-enactments to mark the occasion.

On one side, the stone has the Proclamation of the Republic, and on the other it has the names and images of its seven signatories. This stone is not only a fitting tribute to the leaders of the Rising but will be a lasting reminder of how Ballyphehane came together for a whole year of events paying tribute to those who gave their lives for a better Ireland for all of us.
