Arthur Walker, the first shop
Ballyphehane has two main shopping areas, one at Tory Top Road and Pearse Square, which was built in 1957.
In the old picture of Pearse Square, you can see Father Dominic Road in the background. Houses there were built the same year.
Do you remember any of the shops there over the years? Here are some ideas from our Facebook fans – Noel Murphy’s; Mac meats and before Mac’s, a butchers run by ‘Economy Shops’; Longs; Lawtons; O’Sullivan barbers; a children’s boutique, which before that was a cobblers run by Jack O’Brien; Dr. Sornson; Mahonys Hardware Store; Cudmores and on the left of it a grocery shop called Cronins…what do you think?
