For most of 2016, an interesting structure adorned the centre of the Lough…It was shaped like the figure ‘1916’, and its surface was emblazoned with iconic images including the faces of revolutionary heroes, the GPO on Easter Sunday and the Proclamation of the Republic. The lower piece had the name of the ship the ‘Aud’, on which the ill-fated arms came from Germany in 1916.
This work was commissioned from Coolgrey Design in Cork and was part-funded by Cork City Council and Dúnlaoí Teoranta. Many of us were very sorry to see it leave the Lough at the end of the year!
