Gaelscoil an Teaghlaigh Naofa

We put out a call to schools to tell us a little about themselves...

Gaelscoil an Teaghlaigh Naofa

Tá Gaelscoil an Teaghlaigh Naofa suite go lárnach i mBaile Féitheáin, díreach taobh thiar des na siopaí ar Bhóthar na mBuaircíní. Is Gaelscoil mheascaithe í an scoil, le 221 dalta ar na rollaí.

Gaelscoil an Teaghlaigh is centrally located in Ballyphehane, at the back of the shops on Tory Top Road. It is a mixed Gaelscoil, with 221 pupils on the rolls.

Naíonra an Teaghlaigh Naofa is also on the school grounds, and most children progress from there into Junior Infants.

As a school, we pride ourselves on our many achievements, and are the proud recipients of many awards and prizes.

We are extremely proud of our language, heritage and culture and this is reflected in the ethos of the school.

We have won Discover Cork Schools Heritage Project prizes for the second year in a row, including Best Overall School effort and individual class prizes.

We take part in Feis Maitiú every year, and swept the boards again this year, with 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class all bringing home certs and trophies.

Our school featured on the TV programme Cleas Act last year, and also took part in Gig na Gaelainne in the City Hall.

We have a very active school choir, and we take part in choral events each year.

We participate in Sciath na Scol, Lúthchleasa Chorcaí and our teams also look forward to competing at the annual Iomáint Cois Locha hurling matches.

Our school has forged a strong link with the local community and we are very fortunate to have the use of the Community Centre Hall for Football training with Ballyphehane GAA.

We are enthusiastic visitors to the local Ballyphehane Library, and look forward to changing books once a fortnight.

The school has a traditional music group and they enjoy their visits to the Ballyphehane Day Care Centre to play a few tunes! They also take part in Scór na bPáistí each year, and are well prepared by their tutor, Mick Hickey.

We also are very fortunate to have a Brass Band in the school, with tutors from the Barrack St Brass Band. This programme is run with the assistance of Music Generation.

We place great value on literacy in the school and we take part in the MS Readathon each year. We also hold an annual Book Fair in the school, which is run by 6th class pupils, in a very efficient manner!

Glacann na páistí páirt sa togra Scríobh Leabhar freisin, agus baineann siad an taitneamh agus tairbhe as!

The school has a very active Green Schools Committee, who meet on a regular basis, and we are proud to have four flags.

Is Scoil Chothaithe Sláinte an scoil freisin, agus bíonn Siúl ar Scoil ó Aldi gach maidin Céadaoin.

We aim to provide a holistic education for our pupils in Gaelscoil an Teaghlaigh Naofa, and are constantly striving to provide new experiences for them in order that they may reach their full potential as confident, secure young people by the time they complete their primary school education.

We are very fortunate to  have a very vibrant, enthusiastic school community, including a very hard working parents committee, Lé Chéile, who are very supportive of the school in every way.

Táimid an bhródúil as ár scoil, agus as ár ndaltaí. Bíonn sé mar aidhm againn i gconaí go mbeadh teaghlach uile na scoile sona, sásta, sláintiúil agus sábhálta. Ní neart go cur le chéile.
